Chopping Trees
Mother Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, was living at her Guru’s ashram when she went to collect wood in the forest with her two sons, Luv and Kush. One of the sons started chopping a small tree with an axe, and Sita stopped him immediately. She told him that they should only collect dead wood fallen on the ground and not chop down any live trees. She made him apologize to the tree for hurting it, which he did. The moral of this ancient story is that we must not chop down trees that give us oxygen. Not only should we preserve our forests, but we should also plant more trees.
